Mark Carney, a former banker, is set to become the new Prime Minister of Canada after winning the race to lead the Liberal Party.

He defeated former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, securing 86% of the vote in the party’s leadership contest.

Carney’s victory marks a historic moment, as he is the first person without a political background to assume the position of Prime Minister in Canada.

Carney, 59, is no stranger to politics. He’s been a strong critic of former U.S. President Donald Trump, especially concerning Trump’s tariffs.

Speaking at a party rally, Carney remarked, "There is someone who is trying to weaken our economy. He is showing hostility towards Canadian workers and businesses. We cannot allow him to succeed."

He further emphasized the need for bold action, saying, "This cannot go on. We must do something that no one has ever imagined."

With Canada in the midst of a trade war with the United States under Trump’s leadership, Carney is stepping into a time of political instability.

His leadership comes at a critical juncture, and many are eager to see how he will handle these challenges.

Carney‍‍`s victory was significant, as he won the support of 86% of the Liberal Party’s 152,000 members.

His leadership victory also comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation in January due to dwindling public support after over nine years in office.

Before entering politics, Carney argued that he was the right person to lead the party, revive its fortunes, and take charge of trade discussions with Trump.

His election as leader shows a new direction for the Liberal Party and the country as a whole.

As Carney prepares to assume office, all eyes are on him to see how he will navigate the complex political and economic challenges facing Canada.
